Freelance Web Designer
Hi, I’m James McGrother, a freelance web designer based in East London. I specialise in designing and building responsive, attractive web sites for small to medium businesses and creative individuals.
I began in web design as a small business owner and musician so I know how businesses and creative individuals think when it comes to their online presence and I understand what they want and expect from a web designer. Scroll down for more info on what I do and examples of my work.
Web Design East London
So what are your options when looking to create a website for your business or project?
- Design the website yourself
- Hire a freelance web designer
- Hire a “creative digital studio”
While they all have pros and cons, often the most useful option is to hire a freelance web designer. Today it is more than possible to design a website yourself using online templates and tutorials. However, this can be very time consuming (especially if you get stuck).
I know because I did it. It’s usually a wise move to delegate the task to either a freelance designer or creative digital studio. For most small to medium businesses the sensible, cost effective option is to hire a freelance web designer who you can have direct contact with and who cares about the quality of the final product.
As a small business owner, I know that its a big deal to bring an outsider on-board. I make a point of being easy to communicate with and open to your ideas as well as being transparent about the process.
You know your business better than anyone else. Our creative partnership on your project depends on great communication and planning.
GREAT DESIGN BEGINS WITH FULLY UNDERSTANDING THE CLIENT’S ORGANISATION AND THE MESSAGE YOU ARE TRYING TO BRING TO THE WORLD.
Here’s a selection of websites I’ve finished recently. Feel free to browse through my portfolio.
I offer a range of services designed to help businesses and individuals achieve their digital and print marketing goals. Read on to find out more about the services I offer…
Responsive Web Design
All my websites are designed to be responsive to how the user views the page. Responsive Web Design ensures that the website is always presented to the user in the optimal format for the device they are using to view the page.
Optimising a website to look great across all devices creates a greater user experience (UX) and ultimately leads to much improved conversion rates.
It also impacts heavily on SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and is strongly recommended by google (Google’s responsive web design advice).
Graphic design is all about finding the clearest way to present your message to the world. Your logo, font & colour-scheme must present a strong & cohesive brand identity across digital and print media that allows that message to make an impact.
I design logos, flyers, posters, business cards, leaflets or anything else you can imagine using industry standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign etc.
I can also organise the printing and delivery of these items in accordance with your specification.
Social Media Management
First impressions are everything and in todays world Social Media is an organisation’s first contact with potential customers or fans.
Running an effective social media campaign is about capturing the imagination of followers through interesting or useful content that compliments the culture of your brand.
By taking the time to comprehensively understand your brand I can advise not only on general social media best practice but also how to devise and implement long-term social media campaigns.
The world of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) has changed radically from the early days of cramming keywords into every other sentence.
Search engines now place more weight on factors such as User Experience (UX), how often a page is updated and page load times.
I not only ensure that the websites I build are prepared to rank well from the beginning. I can also guide and suggest strategies to keep your website competitive post-launch.
